Syncplicity provides three different permissions on folder shares to allow you to control how much access different users have within a shared folder.
Reader
A reader can download, open, and view all documents placed in the shared folder, but cannot save, delete, or modify documents placed in the shared folder. A reader can reshare the folder to other users, but only at the Reader permission level. A reader can also remove from a share any individuals the user invited.
Collaborator
Collaborators can create, delete, rename, change, download, open, and view all documents and folders within the shared folder. Any changes made by a collaborator are versioned, added to the file revision history, and synchronized to all other users. Deleted files are always retained in the Recycle Bin in accordance with the Business or Personal account file retention policy. A collaborator can reshare the folder to other users at either the Reader or Collaborator permission level. A collaborator can also remove from a share any individuals the user invited.
Owner
The owner of a shared folder is the person who created and shared the folder. Unlike Reader and Collaborator permissions, only one person can be the Owner in a shared folder. An owner has the highest level of folder permission. They are able to do anything a Collaborator can do, plus the ability to remove any user from a folder, including those they did not add.
In addition, an Owner is the only user who can permanently destroy data within a shared folder as they have the ability to both empty the folder's online Recycle Bin and completely delete the shared folder for everyone versus simply leaving the share.
Tip: The best practice for business environments with shared folders where it is important to have persistent auditing of user actions and versioning, such as in a company share, is to create and share these folders through an administrative user account assigned specifically for sharing.
Note: For Business Edition accounts, company sharing policies are always enforced across shares and sharing permissions by the Syncplicity service. If a share or a permission violates a policy, an error message is displayed when the prohibited change is attempted to be made and the change will not take effect.
