In general, the Syncplicity Personal Edition and Business Edition clients work well with virtually all files and programs. However, certain files and programs are designed in ways which mean they are not recommended for use with syncing software. As we become aware of file types and programs with issues, the list below will continue to be updated.
ACT! Database Files
The ACT! program runs a MSSQL system service that runs at all times, even when ACT! itself is not running. Syncplicity will not be able to sync these files while the program is running. However, the MSSQL service will also lock the files whenever it is running.
Workarounds: To backup or sync ACT! files, the ACT! program as well as MSSQL service need to be closed to release the lock on files.
iTunes Files
Background Information: iTunes metadata libraries contain information that is different on different computers and should not be synced.
Workaround: Please keep in mind that even with this workaround, you should not use your iTunes music library on more than one computer at a time.
- On the originating computer, navigate to your iTunes folder
- Right click on the folder and choose Add to Syncplicity
- On the other computer, accept the shared folder and make note of where it's stored.
- Wait for synchronization to complete
- Load iTunes while holding down the Shift key on your computer
- Click Choose Library and select the iTunes folder you took note of previously.
Microsoft One Note Files
Background Information: Microsoft does not recommend syncing these files with folder sharing and syncing tools. Syncplicity does not support the use of One Note files.
Workarounds: None.
Microsoft Outlook Personal Storage Table
Background Information: Outlook files are designed to sync across multiple computers using Microsoft Exchange, therefore we do not support the syncing of these files.
Workarounds: None.
Quicken Files
Background Information: Intuit, Quicken's maker, does not recommend that Quicken files be shared across multiple computers. Quicken warns that doing so may cause data loss in your files. We do not recommend or support using Syncplicity to sync Quicken files.
Workarounds: None.
Windows Live Mail
Background Information: Windows Live Mail is designed to sync via an e-mail server and places exclusive locks on their files to prevent them from being synced by file synchronization and management solutions.
Workaround: None.
