Set Up and Install
The steps below will help users sign up for the Syncplicity service and install it on their computers.
Sign Up
Signing up for Syncplicity is a fast and easy process. To sign up for a Syncplicity account, just follow the steps below:
- Go to syncplicity.com and choose the version of Syncplicity you are interested in (Personal Edition or Business Edition)
- Select a plan
- Enter your email address, name, and password. Agree to the Terms of Service, then click Sign Up.
Install Syncplicity
The Syncplicity program should be installed on any computers that should have synced documents:
- At my.syncplcity.com, click the Install tab
- Click the Download Syncplicity link at the top of the page
- When the download dialog box appears, choose Run
- Syncplicity will begin downloading. When the download is finished, click Run
- Read over the Syncplicity Terms of Service. If you agree to the terms, click I agree
- You may need to allow permission for Syncplicity to install. Click Continue to grant this permission.
Configure Syncplicity
Once Syncplicity is installed on a computer, it needs to be associated with a user account:
- Follow the installation instructions listed above to be launched into the Syncplicity registration wizard
- If the wizard does not launch automatically, go to Start -> Programs -> Syncplicity to start.
- Type in your Syncplicity user name, password, and give your computer a name. If Syncplicity believes the computer name already exists, please follow the instructions at http://manual.syncplicity.com/Computers to manage your computer names
- Click Next
- Choose your syncing preferences:
- Synchronize and backup my personal folders will sync all common user folders.This means that the contents of your My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, and Favorites will automatically start syncing with your account when you finish the installation wizard
- Let me pick folders to synchronize and backup will allow users to choose which folders are included in their Syncplicity account. No folders will be automatically synchronized - at the end of the installation wizard you will be allowed to select which folders you wish to sync in your account - view Use Syncplicity for detailed instructions.
- Click Next
- Click Finish.
Tailor Your Syncplicity Account
The steps below will help users configure their Syncplicity account after they have installed it on their computer.
Configure Syncing Speed
The below instructions will allow users to change the speed in which Syncplicity syncs data:
- Right click on the Syncplicity system tray icon and select Displayed Detailed Status
- Click the Configure Syncplicity link on the left.
- Move the slider all the way to the right to utilize more of your connections bandwidth. Move it to the left to use less.
- If you want Syncplicity to use even more bandwidth than click on the Show Advanced Settings link. This displays five bandwidth presets for slow DSL up to LAN speed. There is also a sixth choice which allows you to specify connection bandwidth.
Add Folder
Adding a folder to your Syncplicity profile is the first step to get started. To add a folder to your sync:
- Right-click on the folder you wish to add, and select Syncplicity
- Click Add to Syncplicity
- Your folder should now appear with the Syncplicity logo - this means that your computer is now processing the initial sync
Synchronize Computer
Now that content has been added to your Syncplicity account, a synchronization will start immediately.
- Syncplicity scans your computer to see what has been added (or in the case of subsequent synchronizations, what has changed)
- The content will be uploaded online
- Click on the Syncplicity tray icon to see the status of the sync. Once the status shows "Fully synced," you may navigate to my.syncplicity.com/files to view your files online.
